Children’s Belidi Class (1/2 hour) Nina Amaya of Bright Hills
Children and adults are welcome to learn some basic steps. We will warm up with a simple debke- just 4 steps! And then use 6 moves that will be repeated in a simple choreography. Shoulder shimmies, hip drops, snake arms, pushes figure eights and hip shimmies all look good in period garb.We will practice to a song called "Mijwiz" an ancient Egyptian reed instrument. It could be danced at the evening party as the musicians play a beledi.

Turkish dance to a 9/8 Rhythm (1 hour) Nina Amaya of Bright Hills
Learn how to interpret a 9/8 karsilama with traditional Turkish Rom moves. This will be a class that keeps moving. Individual expression encouraged, as well as authentic movements. We will have fun! Hopefully some of the musicians can play us a karsilama in the evening party and we can show off our mad skills!

Intro to Period Raqs ("Belly Dance")(2 hours) Master Asim
This is a class for those who want to learn period-esqe movements, as well as how to start with a period dancer persona! We'll cover not only the limited, extant information on how the dance might have been performed in period, but you'll also get information on the two most documentable persona types for dancers! Detailed handouts, including bibliography, will be provided.

Intro to Ottoman Clothing (1 hour) Master Asim
A brief and effective overview on Ottoman clothing, with an emphasis on the practical layering of Ottoman clothing in an SCA environment. Basic patterns and modern fabric usage will be provided, as well as an extensive document that includes information and ideas for further research.

Overview of Mid-East Clothing (1 hour) Master Asim
This is a discussion and very basic information on the main "styles" of clothing in the "Middle East". Far from a substitute for detailed documentation, it is a place for people to get an idea what kinds of clothing were worn in the region in period, and how to dig for clothing that fits your fashion sense.

Eastern Textile Printing in Period (1 hour) Sheikya Maymunah bint Da'ud al Siqilliyah
Review of textiles in period, how they were produced, where we they produced and sold, how far was their distribution, how were they used, etc

Resists, Dyes and Blocks (1 hour) Sheikya Maymunah bint Da'ud al Siqilliyah
Practical advice on making printed textiles using blocks, ink, resists and dyes.

Making your ME Dance Wardrobe More Period (1 hour) Basina bint Khalid
This class will include a brief history of many of the common elements of ME costume you see at SCA events. Will show how to better determine what is fact and fantasy and include ideas for using some existing dance costume pieces and how to adapt them to a more period look.

Intro to Glass Bead Making - The Evil Eye (2 hours) Lady Ethelfleda Davidsdottir

Beginning Drumming (1 hour) Lord Stephen
Drumming circle in the main hall. Come join in and learn some rhythms.

ME Line Dance (1 hour) Baroness Molly
Come explore the world of the ME line dance! We will learn basic steps of a Turkish Laz, an Armenian Guma Ghuma and a Lebanese Debke. These dances require no previous dance experience (they truly only require feet) and dancers will have an opportunity to practice the dances later at the feast.

The Saracen Warrior for the SCAdian Fighter (1 hour) Baron Achbar Ibn Ali

Beginning Veil Dancing Class (1 hour) Lady Rosamund du Grasse
Ever wanted to try your hand at veil work? It is easier than it looks! Join us for beginner veil.

Pearl Embroidery (2 hours) Mistress Jeanmaire
An overview will be given of the historical use of natural and created embellishments for garments and hats. This will include, but not be limited to, pearls, natural stones, and glass beads. After discussing the history of bead work, equipment will be handed out and each student will outline a simple shape in fake pearls, with more discussion of how to purchase and use modern beads during the sewing process. In hour two students will learn about fill patterns and will begin (and possibly finish) filling in the shape outlined in the first hour. Again, during the sewing process there will be discussion of problems that can arise and how to solve them, as well as more discussion about historical accuracy. Students are encouraged to bring their own embroidery hoops and scissors. Everything else will be provided. Class size limited to 8. I ask for a $2 donation to help defray my costs.
